RDGA Women's Player of the Year
The 2019 Women's RDGA Player of the Year: Tammy Blyth
The Rochester District Golf Association began its Women's Player of the Year Award in 2015 as a way of honoring the most consistent championship-level women's player of the season.
Designed to recognize and celebrate women’s skill in the game of golf, the Player of the Year is recognized annually at the RDGA Fall Meeting. This recognition is open to all women in the RDGA and is based on gross scores only. To be considered for the Women's RDGA Player of the Year award, golfers must play in at least one RDGA event to be included.
Winning the RDGA Women's Player of the Year honors for the first time in 2019 was Tammy Blyth of Monroe Golf Club.
Blyth, who was runner-up for Women's Player of the Year honors in 2018, won the 2019 WRDGA District Championship title in August, then finished runner-up in the New York State Women’s Mid Amateur Championship. Her point total of 390 was 90 points ahead of runner-up Mikah McDonnell of Locust Hill, who won the 2019 RDGA Women's Championship title in August.
The race for the 2020 RDGA Women's Player of the Year begins in May, with the RDGA Two Person Scramble, hosted by Wayne Hills Country Club. This year, after much deliberation during the offseason, the decision has been made to change the process by which the RDGA identifies its Players of the Year - including awards for Men, Women, Seniors, Junior Boys and Junior Girls.
Beginning this year, there will no longer be a points schedule for any of the five Player of the Year categories. Tracking of player performance will be done internally - with the ultimate decision of who wins Players of the Year honors being made by a select committee of golf community leaders in the Rochester area.
